The Reggio Emilia Approach
In 2018, staff from Nanabijou Childcare Centre journeyed to Reggio Emilia, Italy.
Although this trip was designed as an intensive training study tour to learn the Reggio Emilia principals, they returned with so much more. The training has been transformative for Nanabijou Child Care Centre.
We are proud to welcome you to a creative, wondrous, and curious space where children and adults are inspired to learn together every day.
Community of Learning
We work to inspire children to observe the world around them and document their findings, the adults in their lives have invested in their own journey to develop the skills necessary to support creativity. In turn, the children inspire us.
Our staff and families participate in drawing, painting, cooking, gardening, sewing, carpentry and pottery classes throughout the year. We have developed partnerships with local artists, musicians, dancers and theatre directors to continue to develop our skills and enhance the children’s ability to express themselves.
It is the goal of Nanabijou Child Care to develop a creative community of life long learners.
Community of Exploring
This is easy when your back yard contains hiking trails, a river and Lake Tamlyn, a community garden, an Olympic sized pool, and the endless resources, education departments and activities on Lakehead University Campus.
Our neighbours also include geese, fox, deer, ducks and otters. We have developed partnerships with the outdoor recreation department, Lakehead University Student Union, Kinesiology Department, Superior Science, Willow Springs, Roots to Harvest among other community groups to increase our natural learning and enhance the children’s ability to take risks, be curious and explore beyond our classroom walls.
Daily the adults and children are encouraged to explore the world around them.
